Client: Ohm Cycles
Tangram has collaborated on numerous Electric Bicycle projects with Abbotsford based Ohm Cycles. Our relationship began in 2007 when Tangram redesigned the primary battery enclosure for Ohm’s original E-bike frame. Tangram worked with the Ohm Cycles team and their external battery and manufacturing partners to create an enclosure that streamlined assembly, provided multiple internal configurations, and improved overall usability. Commuters no longer need to compromise on style to enjoy the power and range of a sophisticated electric bike.
In 2012 we began developing Ohm’s next generation platform including bike frame, battery configuration, and battery enclosure.
The new frame is manufactured using hydroformed aluminum which allows for greater design flexibility than traditional stock tubing. The frame design simultaneously optimizes battery placement and provides an ergonomic step-over height. To help introduce and test the new frame Tangram developed a complete concept system including a battery enclosure that thermally connects the frame to the Battery Management System allowing the frame to double as a heat sink.
A number of fully functional concept bikes were produced using a variety of rapid prototyping techniques and showcased at the 2013 Interbike Show in Las Vegas and the 2013 Eurobike show in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
